While the presence of infectious organisms in the semen of healthy men is not common, when present they can survive the freezing process. Organisms transmitted in semen increase the risk of spontaneous abortion, premature births and may cause disease in the recipient and unborn child.
Procreative CryoBank requires that all semen depositors be tested for the following:
•HIV I and II antibodies
•HTLV I and II antibodies
•RPR (Syphilis)
•CMV IgG and IgM antibodies
•Hepatitis C Viral antibody
•Hepatitis B Core antibody
•Hepatitis B Surface antigen
Procreative CryoBank will not store the semen of men who test positive for HIV antibodies, HCV antibody, or Hepatitis B surface antigen.
