FAQ’s

1.  What is involved in establishing an account at Procreative CryoBank, LLC?

Please call Procreative CryoBank at (314) 997-3620 to schedule an appointment to open an account.  On your initial appointment, please plan on spending about an hour in order to: meet with the doctor to discuss storage options, complete all forms, make a deposit and, if applicable, have blood drawn.   The documents you will be given will explain the terms and conditions of storage and will authorize us to store your specimens at our facility.

2.  How many deposits will I have to make?

The number of recommended deposits depends on the quality of your specimens and your future family plans.  Our staff will make storage recommendations, answer technical questions and present semen analysis results.  You are not obligated to follow the recommendations and should always consult with your physician, spouse or other family members if necessary.

3.  How long should I abstain from ejaculation before each deposit?

It is best to abstain at least 2 days prior to each deposit and no more than 7 days.

4.  How much will the specimen processing and storage cost?

Initial semen freezing includes a complete semen analysis, semen freezing, post-thaw analysis, storage administration, blood collection, and the first year of storage.  Please refer to our client depositor fees under semen storage for current prices.

5.  Does the cost of storage depend on the numbers of deposits I make?

Yes.  Each cane will hold up to 6 vials.  If you go to a second cane, the cost will increase.  However, we do have a cap on storage fees.  Please refer to the client depositor fees under semen storage for current prices.

6. Is there a risk of transmission of infectious diseases and other illnesses between frozen semen/sperm?

The American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and the American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) have specific regulations for testing for infectious agents prior to freezing specimens.  Likewise, Procreative CryoBank requires that testing for the presence of infectious agents (please refer to our screening page for the list of required tests) must be done prior to freezing for the protection of all the storage patients.

7.  What if I have already had the blood tests done or will have them prior to opening a storage account Procreative CryoBank?

Infectious Disease screening is comprised of 7 blood tests.   Although we provide the option of drawing blood for the screening at Procreative CryoBank on your first visit, the blood tests may be performed by any licensed laboratory prior to your opening a storage account.  If you would like to have the blood tests performed at another laboratory prior to establishing your account, you can call us to get the names of the required tests.  All tests performed within 30 days of opening your account will be accepted.  A copy of the test results will be required at your first visit or before your first deposit. Your physician may require you to fill out an Authorization for Release of Medical Information prior to releasing your test results to us.  Emergency cases will be evaluated accordingly.

8.  Is it possible to collect semen at home rather than at PCB?

You can collect at home in a sterile specimen cup provided by Procreative CryoBank.  If you choose to do so, you must deliver your specimen for processing no later than 1 hour after collection.
